Constance's mother systematically abused her daughter throughout her childhood. Regularly beaten and starved, she tried to get herself taken into care without success and even drank bleach. When she was 13, her mother left her to fend for herself but Constance found the courage to survive and this is her story.

One of the most disturbing aspects of this book was the culpability of Constance's siblings. Not only did they acquiesce to her abuse during childhood, they were prepared to give perjured evidence on behalf of her abuser during the trial which followed the publication of this book.
A recommended read on so many levels.

It's disturbing the abuse Constance was inflicted with and remarkable how she endured it to her own betterment. A recommended read for parents in particular.
