Sensuous, inspiring, and wholly original, SUSUR: A CULINARY LIFE celebrates one of the most compelling chefs of our time.Susur Lee has built an international reputation with his bold interpretation of classical Chinese cooking, dubbed nouvelle chinoise. SUSUR: A CULINARY LIFE is an intimate look at this culinary master, in two lavishly illustrated volumes that are joined at the spine and designed to be read in tandem. Book 1 recounts Susur'¬?s life story, a circuitous journey that has taken him from Hong Kong to France to Toronto. Book 2 features a sumptuous array of more than 120 of Susur'¬?s most sought-after recipes. Together, the two books create a bold yet nuanced work that is as innovative as the chef himself.

Having been a fan of Susur Lee from his days at Lotus in Toronto, this is a must have for me. His story is compelling and the recipes complex beyond measure! Nevertheless, this is a book unlike anything you've ever seen. Gorgeous production values and unusual binding. I have it on my coffee table and people who drop by are invariably fascinated by it. Check it out and you'll see what I mean.

Very interesting book 1 with details of Susur's life and background; details of the restaurants. Book 2, with the recipes is visually stunning, very reflective of the chef and his work. The recipes are full of flavour, but very detailed, and time consuming. Well worth the effort for a special event, though.

This wonderful connected two book set shows two parts to Susur--his innovated recipes and his personal life. His recipes come with background information on the spices and herbs that may not be native to the everyday person's home. The personal segments also provide an interesting look into the history of Lee as a chef and as a son, husband and father.
