You cannot pigeonhole this film. It refuses to fit in a mold and cannot accept easy limits. The setting is Holland in World War II and this is a film about the resistance. It is also a film about courage, coming of age, friendship, betrayal and survival. It serves as both an example and a warning to us about the limits of friendship and love.
