Alice Cooper (the stage persona) was a deranged drag queen.
I have always viewed singer/songwriter Alice Cooper (real name Vincent Furnier) as being something of a frustrated transvestite/clown with a twisted desire to shock with his rock. ~~~ I mean, let's face it, all that caked-on mascara and garter belts and shredded fish-net stockings (and all the rest) sure didn't represent the desire to personify masculinity to me. ~~~~ Generally speaking, I think that Alice Cooper was only a marginally talented rocker. And, because of that he repeatedly had to use the ruse of "gimmick" rock in order to hide the fact that his songwriting abilities were, for the most part, only second-rate. ~~~ "Mascara & Monsters" is a "Best Of" collection from Alice Cooper that covers the years from 1971-1989. This CD contains 22 tunes which includes such one-time hits as - I'm Eighteen, School's Out, Generation Landslide, and Muscle Of Love, to name but a few.
